The Opera VPN app is showing me somewhere else but another app knows where I am. Why?

Some applications will use IP address to identify where you are. This is what Opera VPN and other VPNs for Android hide when activated.
Other applications will use IP address and/or Location Services. This is either your GPS location, or the location determined by SSID (basically approximating your location by the known locations of routers your device detects nearby) If Location Services is used, no VPN can mask your location with that of another, you may be able to turn off Location Services and then the VPN will help. However, some apps will not work with Location Services turned off.

My app is unable to connect on my Android device

Some older and more basic models of Android operating system may not have the correct drivers to allow for an Open VPN connection to be established. In these cases, the Opera VPN app may not be able to connect and will attempt and then fail. In these cases Opera VPN or any Open VPN based apps will not be able to connect on your device. You may be able to contact the manufacturer of the device to see if they have the driver available for download. Then you could use the Opera VPN app.

Maps still knows where I am

Opera VPN will only mask your IP address. It does not affect any apps that either use Location Services or GPS.

Will Opera VPN protect a device that’s tethered to my iPad or iPhone?

No. Opera VPN only protects the web activity on your iPhone, iPad or iPod. It will not protect any other device that is tethered to the device it is installed on. Soon, you will be able to get Opera VPN for other devices.
